1962 Rolex Submariner 5508 Small Crown

The Submariner 5508 was produced from 1958 to 1962 and was the last “small crown” Submariner reference. This 1962 example features a gilt gloss dial that has aged to a warm brown. The dial and hands were recently relumed by Greg Petronzi of True Patina using their tier 2 pigment, matched to the original “exclamation dial” layout. The case shows light past polishing but remains sharp. The bezel insert is well-preserved, aging to a dark navy tone.

It comes on a 7206 Gay Frères Swiss rivet bracelet from a slightly earlier model, with a small-logo clasp stamped 1954 and “65” fixed endlinks. The bracelet has light stretch and, with 12 links, will fit most wrists. While at True Patina, the caliber 1530 movement received a complete overhaul and is running excellently.
