F.P.Journe Élégante 48mm Titalyt

Introduced in 2014 after eight years of research and development, the Élégante marked a significant departure for F.P. Journe. Best known for traditional mechanical watchmaking, François-Paul Journe approached electronic timekeeping with the same emphasis on innovation, longevity and finishing found throughout his mechanical collection. The larger 48mm format followed in 2016, broadening the model’s appeal beyond its original positioning as a ladies’ watch.

At its heart is the electromechanical Calibre 1210. After remaining motionless for 35 minutes, the hands stop while the processor continues measuring time internally. When the watch is moved again, the hands automatically return to the correct time using the shortest clockwise or counterclockwise route. This system provides approximately eight to ten years of autonomy in regular use and as much as eighteen years in standby.

This example features the anthracite Titalyt treatment, created through a plasma oxidation process applied to the lightweight titanium case. Combined with the fully luminescent white dial, distinctive Flat Tortue case and visible motion detector at 4:30, the Élégante represents one of the most technically unusual and collectible electronic watches produced by a modern independent manufacture.
