IWC 3718 'Le Petit Prince' Doppelchronograph

This is the IWC 3718 “Le Petit Prince” (ref. IW371807), produced in 2016 as a more expressive evolution of the brand’s split-seconds chronograph, and limited to 1,000 pieces. While it shares the same core architecture as earlier Doppel models, it shifts the focus from pure tool watch functionality to something more narrative driven.

Like its predecessors, the watch is powered by the calibre 79420, featuring the Richard Habring–designed rattrapante module built atop a Valjoux 7750 base. By this point, the movement was well proven, robust, serviceable, and one of the most approachable ways to own a split seconds chronograph from a major Swiss brand.

What sets this reference apart is its connection to Le Petit Prince. The deep sunburst blue dial has become a signature of IWC’s special editions, but the most distinctive detail is the unconventional day display, represented by a rotating star. Rather than following a traditional weekday sequence, the star appears to jump in a seemingly random order, an intentional design choice that leans into the whimsical, story driven nature of the piece rather than strict practicality.

The caseback engraving further reinforces this, depicting the Little Prince standing on his asteroid. Produced as part of IWC’s long running partnership with the Saint Exupéry estate, this reference has become a favorite among collectors looking for something a bit more personal than a standard pilot’s chronograph, while still retaining the mechanical appeal of the Doppel.

This example was serviced by IWC on 4/15/26 and carries a two year service warranty. During service, the watch received a full overhaul, with the hands and dial replaced, and the case refinished to factory standards. It comes complete with the IWC service box and accompanying paperwork.
