Introduced in 1955, the original IWC Ingenieur was created as a professional watch for engineers and scientists working around strong magnetic fields. The reference 666AD used a soft-iron inner faraday cage to protect its movement and was rated against magnetic fields up to 80,000 A/m. Inside is IWC’s caliber 8531, featuring a date complication and Albert Pellaton’s celebrated pawl-winding automatic system.
This circa-1960 example features a silver pie-pan dial with applied gold-tone markers and dauphine hands, giving the technical Ingenieur a dressier appearance. It is fitted to a leather strap with a period correct IWC signed buckle and is accompanied by a period correct IWC box and pamphlet.
