MB&F HMX Red 10th Anniversary Horological Machine Limited Edition of 20

If any brand challenges our perception of what a watch is, it’s MB&F. The HMX is one of those pieces that initially makes you ask, “How do you even tell the time on this?”, and then immediately surprises you by how intuitive it actually is.

Created to celebrate 10 years of the Horological Machine family, the HMX features an in-house bi-directional jumping hour and trailing minute module mounted to a Sellita gear train. To make this a true driver’s watch, MB&F uses dual sapphire crystal prisms to reflect the time displays 90 degrees, allowing the time to be read vertically through an aperture at the lower lugs.

That aperture evokes a car’s dashboard, a theme carried throughout the watch. The movement’s rocker cover inspired bridges are topped with two polished “oil caps” that aren’t just decorative, they are functional service points used by the watchmaker to lubricate the indication discs.

The titanium and stainless steel case is sporty yet surprisingly comfortable on the wrist, paired with a black and red perforated leather strap that perfectly suits the design. Flip the watch over and you’re greeted by a 22k gold automatic rotor engraved with MB&F’s motto, "A Creative Adult Is a Child Who Survived." A fitting summary of this wildly imaginative timepiece.
