OPH 786 Vélos Salmon Guilloche CNC

The Ophion OPH 786 Vélos pairs a classical design with modern manufacturing techniques, using precision machining to achieve much of the visual character associated with considerably more expensive independent watchmaking. The salmon dial features a deeply engraved CNC guilloché pattern, thermally blued applied Arabic numerals and matching blued hands. The guilloché is CNC milled, giving the dial a level of depth similar to traditional hand turned guilloché that cannot be achieved through stamping, while keeping production costs considerably lower.

The 39mm hand polished stainless steel case features individually manufactured teardrop lugs which are separately welded to the case. The case is produced in collaboration with Voutilainen Cattin in Switzerland. Sapphire crystals are fitted front and back with anti reflective treatment.

Inside is a hand wound, twin barrel movement with a five day power reserve. Its architecture originates with the Technotime TT718, one of Technotime's higher end movements, featuring twin barrels, a 120 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vph. After Technotime ceased operations, the platform continued under Soprod. For the 786 Vélos, Ophion substantially reworked its appearance with proprietary main bridges and balance bridge, grenaille textured surfaces, machine chamfering, straight brushing and contrasting finishes inspired by early pocket watch movements.

This approach is central to the 786 Vélos. Rather than competing with heavily hand finished independent watches, Ophion uses precise machining, thoughtful design and carefully selected specialist suppliers to focus effort where it has the greatest visual impact. The result delivers much of the character and presence associated with high end independent watchmaking at a substantially more competitive price point.
